Inky People

A 40-minute mini lesson packed with ideas

ENROLL NOW ÂŁ35

Create a crowd of quirky characters that leap off the page

In this lesson, you'll pour ink, let it flow into loose figure shapes, and watch characters appear.

It's a freeing, intuitive way to explore figures, with collage, ink, and a touch of happy accident.

No figure-drawing experience needed.
No pressure to get it right.

Just flowing ink, playful decisions, and a sketchbook full of people with personality

What you’ll explore?

In this short, focused lesson, you’ll learn how to:
  • Let ink flow freely and find figure shapes within it

  • Add just a glimpse of a head, hands or legs, or go further with hats, boots, big hair, dogs on leads…

  • Respond intuitively and make creative decisions in real time

  • Use chance and surprise as part of your creative process

  • Start building your own cast of quirky, expressive characters

You'll end the lesson with a sketchbook page full of personality, made entirely in your own style.

A small lesson. A springboard for big ideas.

The core lesson runs for around 40 minutes, but it's designed as a starting point, not a finish line. You can stretch it, revisit it, and let it lead you somewhere unexpected.

You'll hear and see the real-time thought process throughout: what to place where, when to step back, and how much to let the ink run and surprise you.

It pairs beautifully with the People/Figures Course, but works perfectly on its own as a short creative boost.

This lesson is perfect if you:

◈ Love ink and mixed media but want to try something more playful and free

◈ Have always wanted to draw figures but don't know where to start

◈ Want a short lesson you can complete in one sitting

◈ Are curious about letting chance and intuition lead your work

◈ Want to develop your own visual language, not copy someone else's

No drawing experience is needed.

And it was well worth the effort! I won't give away Karen's secrets -  but I will say that she starts slowly to get us over the natural trepidation most of us feel. Dribbling ink and squirting it with water while it runs down five or six pages  must be a proven ice-breaker. After that it was just one bit of fun after another.

Thank you for a very stimulating lessons. It Is very interesting how everyone  interprets your instructions differently. I was somewhat out of my comfort zone as I normally like everything very ordered but there was an fantastic freedom doing the collage and I will definitely develop it further. So thank you for your time and enthusiasm.
